Could this be a Fungi twitch?

On the walk back from yesterdays butterfly count I spotted these three bright orange "growths" sticking out the wall at about eye level. I had my suspicions as to what it was, but stuck a photo on the Glam Fungi Group facebook page for a more expect opinion. I was right Scarlet Caterpillarclub (Cordyceps militaris)

I recall Mark found one of these last year, after many years of looking, on a clients lawn.

  1. Cracking find. It is such an elusive species, whose appearance is completely unpredictable, making finding it so much more satisfying. Interesting that there are three fruiting bodies, rather than the usual one.

  2. The Collins guide states its not unusual for several fruiting bodies to erupt from a single source.
