Props from Aliens


 This first  photo was taken over Robertstown. The second was taken up Cwm Cadlan and looks like Frog spawn and last of all taken up Dare Valley Country Park. Any ideas anwser on a post card.

  1. The first looks like some sort of slime mould. I saw some very similar at Bodwigiad last week. The semi transparent jelly in the middle is anyone's guess but the clear brown, drippy thing at the bottom id a gelatinous fungus called Exidia recisa and always occurs on dead sallow branches in wet weather. Given a couple of good dry days and it will shrink back and dry to a hardly noticeable dark film on the branch, like a dab of varnish.

  2. Second thoughts. The first one is also likely to be an Exidia. It looks like E. thuretiana, but that only grows on beech and ash and the twig it is on doesn't look like either of those. Another possibility is E. nucleata, which is less fussy about its hosts.

  3. Thank you mark ,pitty fungus can have a proper names like frog spawn fungus or something your going to remember.

  4. A lot of them have. If the top one is Exidia thuretiana, then its common name would be 'White Brain'.
