Bit of fungus in the valley

 Elf Cup sp

Artist fungus. I was also told if you scratch the white it will go black and is a good way of telling if it is artist fungus.

  1. Nice group of Wrinkled Club. With the elf cup, you need to use a hand lens, to look at the tiny hairs on the pale outer side of the cup. If they are straight, it is Ruby Elfcup (Sarcoscypha coccinea) but if they are coiled or corkscrew shaped, it is Scarlet Elfcup (S. austiaca). Scarlet Elfcup is the commoner of the two and all the cups I've examined have proved to be Scarlet Elfcup.
