Checked the A470 reservoirs for osprey this morning but with no luck, checked with the rangers and they too are waiting their first sighting. A strange man in the bird hide reckons they will not turn up until the butterbur gets its leaves ?? [I strongly advise avoiding eye contact with any one you meet in this hide]. Note WW have leased Cantref to Merthyr Angling so its been stocked for the first time in 2 years, so any osprey passing through may hang about for easy pickings. Other than that just c4 singing willow warbler at Cantref this morning, only 3 nests at the heronry and my first house martin over Cwm Cadlan on Tuesday 7th, soaking wet and at knee height.
Had my first House Martin and Brimstone today while working in Ynysybwl.
