Garw Nant

Late afternoon visit to Garw Nant flushed another day roosting owl, this time a tawny owl, from conifer edge of northern clearfell. Several foraging tilt flocks noted during my lap with goldcrest bringing up the rear, alas no leaf warblers. All the usual suspects with a very high number of NRW vehicles [c12+] in car park, lets all hope that the workers are planning mutiny. Still shrikeless.

  2. I was up there yesterday afternoon and heard Brambling, but didn't see it. There was no Chaffinch flock present where I heard it; on the top road, above the visitor centre. Further along the top road, by the ruined farm and beeches, above Nant Du, I had Willow Tit, in a flock of Long-tailed Tits and Goldcrests. Flipping cold in that wind and there was even a sleet shower to add to the feeling that winter is just around the corner.

  3. Called in briefly, Saturday late morning: brambling heard but not seen just northeast of the farm in the scots pine/larch mix. Also nice to hear that willow tit appears to be back along usual wintering area along the main haul road north of visitors centre. I had one very vocal bird showing well in willow immediately below the north clear-fell shrike pole but, alas no sign of shrike.
