Raven Count and Craig Cerrig-gleisiad

Did the April Raven count, which went pretty well; the total being 168. In the early part of the count, while it was still quite dark, I watched, in between counting the ravens, a Barn Owl quartering the hillside and coming quite close at times. It was also nice to see and hear that the Linnets are back in.

After the count, I thought I would try for Ring Ouzel at Craig Cerrig-gleisiad. I stayed there the best part of three hours and heard RZ calling several times, but failed to get on to any. The problem was, there aren't enough of them in yet, so there was no territorial disputes or singing going on.

While up there, it was good to bump into Kevin Hughes and Gareth Jenkins. Meeting Kevin there made a change from running into him at the NJ site in Llanwynno. As for Gareth, it must be over ten years since our paths last crossed.

    1. The Beacons were swarming. I couldn't believe how many cars were parked along the verges either side of the Storey Arms car parks, which were themselves absolutely stuffed. They must have been queueing to get onto Pen y Fan!
