Devon

Can't  compete with the  "Boy's  from  Brazil " but managed to get a few hours birding in this weekend in Devon. We stayed at Landscove  holiday park just a stones throw from Berry  Head, the cliffs were pretty  quiet with just a few Fulmars and Kittiwakes  in attendance, a few distant  auks on the sea plus a few Gannets feeding off the headland. The bushes were also pretty  quiet  with just a few Whitethroat, Blackcap,Chiffchaff plus three Cirl Buntings being the best of the bunch ( just a heads up lads the tea and cakes in the cafe are excellent ). Before heading home on Monday i checked birdguides  and noticed a Gull billed Tern had been reported  from Passage  House Kingsteignton,I'd  seen one in Devon a few  years ago with Phil and  Mr.Bell but as it wasn't  that far away i decided to call in for a look.On arrival there was no sign of the tern but after ten minutes  or so it put in an appearance  giving really close views what a cracker, other birds of note were,Curlew,Whimbrel,Little Egret and a few Redshank. Final port of call was Bowling Green  Marsh, from the hide there were a few Lapwing, Black tailed Godwit,Heron and a Little  Egret a short stroll to the viewing  platform produced Whimbrel,Curlew, good numbers of Redshank  and a single  Spotted Redshank.
