Garden moths

I had the above in the trap the other night but I'm in a rush, old, nasty and out of practice. Also I've always had problems with grey torts and their kin. Probably best of the night was Cherry Fruit Moth but I don't understand why so few records at this end of the shire. If you can help Mark I'll reimburse you efforts in cider.

  1. You're getting lazy, Mike! The first is Celypha striana, the second is an Epinotia, possibly immundana; it's difficult to be sure from the photo. The last two are the same species; the ubiquitous Celypha lacunana, easily told by the narrow, horizontal stripe cutting through or almost all the way through the dark cross band.

  2. Cheers Mark, hope last night worked out well. You can either have cider or I could put something far more exotic in Phil's suitcase on the way back from Brazil, have you tried Palm Wine?

I've just been going through our site picking out images showing my stolen gear, for the insurance company etc. Our site is wonderful, good biological records well presented with that ever present hint of Valley's sense of humor, some would say insanity, constantly lurking in the background. I love it!!!!

    1. Oi, it's bad enough having to look after Rob's suitcase as well as having to watch my own for foreign bodies. Are you taking your wellies ?

  4. I'll pass on the palm wine, thanks. The warm glow of smug self satisfaction is reward enough!
As for last night, I joined George Tordoff and Mike Thornton for a trapping session at Lanlay Meadows, near Peterson-Super-Ely, in the Vale. It turned out to be a chilly night (6.80 C at my trap), but we managed quite a few species, including a few new to me, such as Brussels Lace (you had one last year, I recall) and Scorched Carpet. I got to bed at 03:15.

    1. Nice bunch of lads, fair play, though I thought my jam jar could have done with a bit of a swill. Thanks for the kind offer by the way, I'll see you alright in Thailand.
