Mixed flock of wigeon[11] and pintail[7] flew in at c10:00 hrs this morning, other wildfowl present; tufted[14] & teal[3]. Yesterday evening c18:50 hen harrier, ringtail, through east to west, briefly visible quartering Merthyr side of Dowlais - Fochrhiw road before being lost to view.
Nice selection, doing well with raptors lately.
ReplyDeleteExcept long-eared owl ! there has to be at least 1 in Merthyr. Why can't you spell winchat? I've got a feeling we are in for a good autumn/winter - I just need a tripod. See you.
ReplyDeleteI made one mistake years ago with Whinchat and Mr Gaze loves reminding me!!
ReplyDeleteI misspelled Wren ages ago and there isn't a day goes by that I don't beat myself up over it. I mean, how was I to know there was only one R in it?
ReplyDeleteEasy mistake to make Mark but whinchat come on!
ReplyDeletemike powell 6 white wagtails there on tuesday or wednesday aftrenoon , mike
ReplyDeleteHi Martin, I spotted MP's posting on SWB site on Wednesday, there was a rise in "wagtail" numbers from the Monday, c10 birds noted around the pool alone with other birds along roadside and the southern car park. I'm afraid, alas I only noted 2 juv whites, but I find them more difficult to id in Autumn so well done to MP, these were along the south west bank. I've got some very average pic's which I'll post, also there has been shoveler, $$$tern, black darters and an interesting gull present.
