Odds and sods in Abernant

 Six spot burnet on marjoram .I found a load of Marjoram today in Abernant and this is the first time I have seen it in the valley.
 any ideas great looking beetle

 I found these two common blue mating and they told me to get lost.
 This moth is new to me Orange spot Piercer

  1. There's a lot of Marjoram around the old coal tipping area of the Phurny too. That site in Abernant looks really good and is the first place I ever found Canadian Fleabane growing. The longhorn beetle is Strangalia maculata, a species commonly found on hogweed flowers. I photographed one at the canal earlier on in the month.

  3. Common, as you say, but there is a much rarer moth, called Phaulernis fulviguttella also found on Hogweed flowers and also small and blackish, with orange spots. I haven't seen it, just Pammene aurana.
