I was walking in Robertstown this afternoon when I found this Goat Moth drying it's wings out in the sun. When I first found it I was thinking what the hell is this. I soon realised what I was looking at and boy was I happy. I've always wanted to see one. I left the moth and went back tonight to see if it was still there and had it dried out it's wings and found it still in the same spot. It's still amazing to think what's yet to be found in the valley also a great Fathers Day's present.
Will mike be safe with this one as it,s not tied up .
ReplyDeleteGood find, Martin. I've only ever had two of those, the last one being in June 2006.
ReplyDeletecheers mark i remember someone put a caterpillar on facebook for perthcelyn so in the valley just hard to find
ReplyDeleteA few years back, the former post mistress in Cwmbach post office showed me a photo she'd taken on the old line, near Merthyr Tunnel. It was of a caterpillar crawling across the path, obviously on it's way to pupate somewhere.
ReplyDeleteI thought you were my drinking mate and sworn to secrecy, I'd never seen the brute before. I don't know what set it off, probably the smell of palm wine. Cracking moth, I was with Evans at Pen-y-lan, June 2005 when we trapped one, it was my first and alas my last sighting of the species, excellent !
ReplyDeleteThat must have been in your trap, Mike, because it didn't come up when I searched MapMate, using my name as recorder.
ReplyDeleteIt was entered up on MM by Jake, we are both down as recorder/determiner for 27/06/2005.
ReplyDeleteThat's okay. I was just checking there wasn't a hole in my MapMate.
